Lui Avallos is a film director and researcher working at the intersection of cinema, virtual reality, and artistic research. In 2023, he was selected as a Berlinale Talent, where he developed Liminal Spaces. He was selected by the prestigious Biennale College Cinema – Virtual Reality (2022), where he created Queer Utopia: Act I Cruising, a VR experience that premiered at Venice Immersive in 2023. Avallos wrote and directed Handwritten (2021) and Desconexo (2020), which were selected for major international festivals including DOK Leipzig, CPH:DOX, Sheffield Doc/Fest, and the Havana International Film Festival. Holding a master’s degree in Multimedia Art, he is currently a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon, conducting theoretical-practical research on the convergence of essay film, avant-garde cinema, and immersive media.
